# Decommissioning

## Scope

This section provides information for decommissioning SmoothTool X components supplied by Smooth Robotics.

Decommissioning of the complete robotic system — including the robot arm, controller, safety systems, tooling, fixtures, and any integrated equipment — is the responsibility of the system integrator and end user. Refer to the documentation provided by the respective manufacturers for decommissioning instructions related to those components.

## General Safety Precautions

Before performing any decommissioning activities:

- Stop all production operations.
- Place the robotic system in a safe state.
- Isolate all electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and other energy sources according to the procedures established for the installation.
- Follow applicable lockout/tagout procedures where required.
- Ensure that any stored energy has been released before work begins.
- Prevent unintended robot movement during dismantling activities.

## Transport and Storage

If SmoothTool X components are to be transported or stored after removal:

- Protect components from mechanical damage during handling and transport.
- Store components in a dry environment free from excessive dust, vibration, and corrosive substances.
- Use suitable packaging to prevent damage to electrical connectors and mechanical interfaces.
- Retain product identification labels where possible.

## Dismantling

### Software Removal

SmoothTool X software may be removed from the robot controller using the standard software management functions provided by Universal Robots.

Refer to the robot manufacturer's documentation for procedures related to software management and controller maintenance.

### Flange-Mounted Components

Where applicable, flange-mounted components supplied by Smooth Robotics may be removed by:

1. Bringing the robot to a safe and accessible position.
2. Ensuring all power and energy sources have been isolated.
3. Disconnecting any electrical or communication connections associated with the component.
4. Supporting the component as required during removal.
5. Removing the mounting fasteners securing the component to the robot flange.
6. Carefully removing the component from the robot.

Appropriate tools and personal protective equipment shall be used during dismantling.

## Disabling

If the system is to remain installed but no longer use SmoothTool X:

- Disable or remove SmoothTool X program nodes from robot programs as appropriate.
- Remove any automatic startup or operational configurations associated with SmoothTool X.
- Verify that system operation does not depend on SmoothTool X functionality before disabling the software.

## Disposal and Scrapping

SmoothTool X components shall be disposed of in accordance with applicable local regulations governing electronic and industrial equipment.

Materials shall be separated and recycled where facilities exist.

Electrical and electronic components must not be disposed of with unsorted municipal waste.

## Components Outside the Scope of Smooth Robotics

The following components are not covered by this decommissioning procedure:

- Robot arm
- Robot controller
- Safety devices and safeguarding systems
- End-of-arm tooling not supplied by Smooth Robotics
- Fixtures, workpiece handling equipment, and external machinery
- Electrical installations and field wiring
- Pneumatic and hydraulic systems

For decommissioning instructions related to these components, refer to the documentation provided by the respective manufacturers and the system integrator's technical documentation.
