This page lists the hardware and software requirements for running the SmoothTool X URCap on a Universal Robots robot.
Compatible Robot Models
SmoothTool X requires a Universal Robots control box of version CB 5.6 or newer that is capable of running PolyScope X. SmoothTool X is compatible with any robot arm that can be run with those control boxes.
Software Requirements
PolyScope X
SmoothTool X requires PolyScope X to be installed on the robot. The following versions are supported:
| PolyScope X Version | Support |
|---|---|
| v10.13 | ✅ Supported |
Note
Always ensure your PolyScope X installation is up to date before installing SmoothTool X. Check for updates in the System Manager under System → Software Update.
Hardware Requirements
Programming Flange
The SmoothTool X programming flange attaches to the robot tool flange and provides the physical interface for the welding torch. While not strictly required for the software, use of the programming flange is strongly recommended as it significantly improves the user experience.
Welding Torch
SmoothTool X is designed for use with a standard MIG/MAG welding torch. Refer to your welding system documentation for torch compatibility with the programming flange.
Network
The robot control box must be connected to the same network as the welding power source. A wired Ethernet connection is recommended for reliability.
An internet connection is not required for SmoothTool X to function, but is strongly recommended for full functionality of the product.
